FORM ONE

While the government of Tanzania, through the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA), does not administer a national standardized examination at the Form One level, it still indirectly measures the foundational learning acquired by students during their first year of secondary education. This measurement is primarily facilitated through the Form Two National Assessment (FTNA), which students sit for at the end of their second year. The performance in FTNA reflects the cumulative understanding and skills gained in both Form One and Form Two curricula. Therefore, a student's grasp of Form One concepts and their ability to build upon that knowledge in Form Two are ultimately assessed through this national evaluation.

The Form One curriculum itself, which is set by the government through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and implemented by schools, outlines the expected learning outcomes and competencies for students in various subjects. While there isn't a specific national exam to directly measure Form One achievement, the government monitors the overall effectiveness of the Form One curriculum and teaching through the lens of the Form Two National Assessment results. These results provide insights into the strengths and weaknesses of students entering Form Two, which can then inform policy decisions and curriculum adjustments related to the initial year of secondary education.
